HOT DEALS SET TO CHARGE UP BURBS

Builders Storm Vasai-Virar To Set Up New Townships
This farway suburb of Mumbai has long been considered the bastion of gangster Bhai Thakur. But for many builders, the Vasai-Virar region could be the next property hotspot despite its woefully inadequate infrastructure.
A 256 - acre sprawl near Virar railway station (west) is soon to be opened up for a residential township, touted as the biggest of its kind in and around Mumbai. Evershine builders, which recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the owner, Dewan Housing, to buy this huge expanse, is linking the deal for a whopping Rs 150 crore, TOI has learnt. An area of about one crore sq ft will be developed on this land. The Agarwal Group was the other contender in the fray to buy this property. Says Ramchand Ludhani, chairman of the Evershine Group, "We have plans to construct 300-400 residential buildings on the Virar land that will house about 40,000-50,000 people. It will be a mega-township ."Ludhani adds that the area was earlier earmarked for agricultural use but Dewan Housing had got it converted for residential housing. Warns activist Vivek Pandit, who recently joined the shivsena,"Ther has been no planning in this region. Reservations for gardens, playgrounds, schools have been deleted and converted for residential purposes."
